Hello Yahoo Esports!
It is with great joy that I can finally announce my role at Yahoo Sports where I will be working as a part of the newly formed Yahoo Esports team. Though I have only been “off the grid” for a few weeks, it’s great to finally talk about how excited I am about all of this!
For those of you who are tuned into the sports world, you may be aware that Yahoo Sports is one of the biggest sports sites on the web. The chance to work alongside (and learn from) the award-winning writers and producers here is an incredible opportunity for me and I know that it will lead to awesome esports content as everything continues to rev up here.
Historically, some in the sports industry have looked at esports with a certain amount of skepticism. In stark contrast, I have found that everyone here is incredibly excited and supportive about the creation of this whole thing: from directors, product folks, executive producers, up to the VP of Sports. It’s this commitment and enthusiasm that ultimately lead to my decision to join up.
Speaking of the product team, it was great to learn that there are many esports fans here who have been very diligent in the creation of a dedicated website for other esports fans! There are really great features that I’m excited about - including a schedule that allows you to immediately click to start watching live matches, cool and interactive chat technology designed for esports, and even a “spoiler” filter that will allow for safe browsing if you’ve missed the most recent games. The team will be continuing to iterate and add more features as time goes on!
For viewers of my content, you can expect to see even more from me. I’ll still be at LCS every weekend and at the major League of Legends events, but you can also keep an eye out for cool content in other esports titles, longer form pieces, additional “Travis Talks” opinion pieces, and more. Already I’m proud of a few early videos we were able to create out of Yahoo Studios in Santa Monica.
As always, I want to thank everyone who has supported me over the years, both within the industry and the community. This whole thing is gonna be really awesome.
Stay tuned.
-Travis
